Fantasia Barrino To Play Celie In ‘The Color Purple’ Movie Musical
Singer-song writer Fantasia Barrino will make her film debut in ‘The Color Purple’ the movie musical. Fantasia has been casted as Celie, the same role she played in the Broadway rendition of ‘The Color Purple’ in 2007. Whoopi Goldberg played the role in Steven Spielberg’s version of The Color Purple in 1985. The original Broadway musical was an adaptation of the 1982 novel by Alice Walker. It’s a story of a woman named Celie who was impregnated by her father at the age of 14. It’s about her struggles as an African American woman living in the south during the 1900’s. The cast was announced on an episode of ABC’s “Soul Of A Nation’. Oprah Winfrey will produce the upcoming musical film. Barrino will join Taraji P. Henson, Corey Hawkins and H.E.R.
