What Fantasia Revealed At Charlotte “The Color Purple” Premiere
Award-winning actress and singer, Fantasia Barrino, is still reeling from her role as ‘Celie’ in the new version of “The Color Purple.” Media mogul Oprah Winfrey executive produced the musical. And though Fantasia is no stranger to the character having played her on Broadway, she admits it was not a role she was eager to play again.
I know you may be thinking like I was and asking ‘Who says ‘no’ to Oprah?’ I had a chance to dig a little deeper with Fantasia during her Charlotte premiere of “The Color Purple.” Though it was kept hush-hush to most of the public, it turned out to be a star-studded event. Celebrities like her first cousin K-Ci Hailey, from the R&B group Jodeci, was also there to show his support. (K-Ci interview.)
Rapper Da Brat and her wife were on the scene. Mega producer and artist Jazzy Pha ( Jazzy Pha interview) and singer Ceelo and his wife came through as well to offer Fantasia her ‘flowers’. ( Ceelo interview) And there was a host of family members and friends, too including Fantasia’s husband (Kendall) and children (Zion and Dallas). And even her sorority sisters of Sigma Gamma Rho stepped onto the scene. Members of the singing group Brownstone were there to show support as well.
