The Charlotte Hornets Pick & Read program is proud to present this list of featured authors/illustrators for the 2020-21 school year. Hugo, the Hornets MC and V101.9 radio host “Fly Ty” and our featured author/Illustrator will read the book and discuss the overall topic. Each webinar will last approximately 30-45 minutes in length. The next featured book is Despite the Height. Written by Ivory Latta (former WNBA Player.) Illustrated by D.J. Coffman. Warren Publishing Date: Friday, March 19, 1 p.m.
More about her book Bounce Bounce! Despite the Height is the lively, true story of Ivory Latta, one of the smallest women to play for the WNBA. This full-color illustrated book for young readers follows young Ivory as she learns to play basketball, perfect her game, and outplay her big brothers – all despite her height. The book includes a dream journal to help motivate students and inspire conversation.

Lets get to know Ivory Latta better, you grew up in McConnells, SC! A small town how did humble beginnings help you in your career and in life?
When did you first fall in love with basketball?
You started playing varsity basketball in 7th grade! So you found out early on you was gifted, how did that impact you for the future?
Ivory you still hold the record for the all-time leaded scorer in South Carolina history , you have high school championships, named McDonald’s Ms. Basketball, WNBA Allstar games, MVP multiple times and had your jersey retired.
