Bubba Wallace Becomes First Black Driver to Win at NASCAR Cup Series in Almost 60 Years
Bubba Wallace made history Monday as the first Black driver to win a NASCAR Cup Series race since Wendell Scott in 1963.
The official Twitter account for NASCAR tweeted out the historical moment as Wallace embraced his teammates after the win.

Wallace’s historic win came during the rain-delayed YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama, a race that had him beat Ryan Preece and Chris Buescher, per PEOPLE.
Wallace is a part of the 23XI Racing team, which is co-owned by six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan.
“Man, I’m just so proud of everyone at 23XI,” Wallace said per the outlet. “New team coming in and getting a win late in the season. I know a lot of history was made today, I believe, which is really cool, but it’s about our guys, about our team, about what was done.”
Wallace’s becomes the second Black driver to win the NASCAR Cup Series after the first Black NASCAR driver and Hall of Fame inductee Wendell Scott who won on Dec. 1, 1963, at Speedway Park in Jacksonville, Florida.
