Getty ImagesOne of Charlotte's popular soul food restaurants has served its last sweet potato pie and order of macaroni and cheese. La'Wans Soul Food Restaurant has closed its doors... permanently. I know, we are all sad about this one!
Owners La'Wan and Kenny Adams opened the restaurant 22 years ago right here in the Queen City. La'Wan recently decided to shut down the family-run business after her husband, Kenny was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He died in May. La'Wan posted on Instagram that due to “unforeseen challenges,” they were going to shut down the restaurant.
“As we navigate this difficult time, we also embrace the opportunities ahead. As we embark on this new adventure, Kenneth’s legacy will always be kept alive,” she said in the Instagram post.
She says, “We are humbled by the memories we’ve created together and the impact we’ve had on each other’s lives. As we close this chapter, we hold onto the hope that our paths will cross again in the future."
The restaurant served its last meal on August 27. The family-run business was located at 7520 S. Tyron Street. So far, no further details have been released about the restaurant’s closing or the possibility of reopening. Adams says there will be updates shared on Instagram. We hope that Charlotte will not have to be without their great eating for too long. Tons of local favorites have been having to close and we hate to see another one go.
