Brandy To Reprise Cinderella Role In Disney+’s ‘Descendants: Pocketwatch’
Brandy will be slipping into her glass slipper again as she reprises her role as Cinderella for Disney+’s Descendants: Pocketwatch according to PEOPLE. The R&B icon first played Cinderella in 1997’s Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella alongside the late Whitney Houston.
Descendants is a musical about the children of famous Disney fairy-tale characters. The Disney film became a hit in 2015 and spawned two sequels in 2017 and 2019. Rita Ora will play Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts in the film. The cast also includes China Anne McClain, Kylie Cantrall, Dara Reneé, Malia Baker, Ruby Rose Turner, Morgan Dudley, Joshua Colley, and Melanie Paxson.
According to a press release, “Pocketwatch is about Red (Cantrall, playing the daughter of the Queen of Hearts) and Chloe (Baker, playing Cinderella and Prince Charming’s daughter) crossing paths at a momentous celebration in Auradon when unexpected chaos breaks out.”
“In order to prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter’s son, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.”
Brandy’s Cinderella also starred Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Garber, Jason Alexander, and Paolo Montalban. The film premiered in 1997 on ABC to 60 million viewers.
During a sit-down interview for the 25th anniversary of the film, Brandy recalled working with her “Fairy God Mother.” “I remember like it was yesterday, and I’m nervous but I’m not nervous.” Brandy remincised about working with the late Whitney Houston. “I feel so … I can be myself around her and then she feels can be herself around me. This magic is happening and I’m like ‘Oh my god, she really sings like this.'”
A release date for Disney+’s Descendants: Pocketwatch has yet to be officially announced.
