SCAM ALERT: Law Officials Warn Of COVID-19 Scam
Just when you’re trying to make sure you can breathe clean air and staying clear of the coronavirus, here come along the scammers. Pandemic or not, the cybercriminals are out and police officials say don’t be fooled.
Here’s the skinny on what criminals are doing:
Police say you’ll get a text claiming you’ve had contact with someone who was diagnosed with or showing symptoms of COVID-19. The text will include a link and here’s where they try to get you. Officials warn DO NOT CLICK LINK, because that takes you to a place where the criminals hack you, gaining access to your personal information. Once again, THE LINK IS FAKE. DO NOT CLICK.
Authorities say criminals have even gone so far in COVID-19 scams to convince people that there is a cure. If you think you’ve been a victim or have questions, contact your local law enforcement.
