For the record, I am 100% pro haunted house. This time of year, there's nothing like a good fright at a haunted house, maze, or trail. Basically, if you can haunt it, do it. And the people will come. Tis the season, right? Further, I'm 100% pro neighbors who get into Halloween in a big way. I remember the first neighborhood we lived in Indian Trail. We had one neighbor across the street who would begin setting up their yard for Halloween in August. And it was awesome. Kids were scared to death getting candy from that house. Then there was a guy who dressed as "Leatherface"-complete with working chainsaw-and chased kids up and down his street. I loved both these Halloween Hotspots. And this morning I'm just glad they didn't live in Horry County (Myrtle Beach), South Carolina.
Randy Dorenbos has been a Halloween hero in the Grand Strand for a long time. Year after years he's been transforming his driveway into a singular fright spot attracting folks from all around. Shoot, last year he even added a "Go Fund Me" charity component with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department for breast cancer. I mean, this guy's a gem. And now, out of the clear blue sky, Horry Code Enforcement has slapped an injunction against Dorenbos' setup claiming it an unlawful and unsafe structure.
Understandably, Dorenbos is a bit perplexed how all of the sudden this year, the government has taken issue. He tells WMBF News, “We’ve been doing this for seven years. We’ve never had any problems with it. A lot of the community comes out and volunteers to scare on Halloween. They volunteer to help us build it, design it."
No surprise, Horry County has yet to comment as to why they've chosen now to shut down this uber popular haunted house.
North Carolina Here Are Trunk Or Treat Ideas To Try This Halloween!
We are just 11 days out from Halloween. But who is counting? Do you have your costume ready? What about costumes for the kids? Is the house decorated and candy bought? That's all a good start. But don't forget about another Halloween tradition. If you’ve got kids chances are you’ve gotten invited to at least one trunk-or-treat party this Halloween season. The activity is essentially trick or treating on steroids as it’s confined to one small area so the amount of candy you can get in a short time is endless. Churches, sports teams, and even some schools love this tradition and it’s easy to see why. It wasn't really a thing when I was young enough to trick or treat, but I sure wish it was. But if you are going to participate in trunk or treat, your car has to look the part and coming up with ideas can be hard.
Besides the endless amounts of candy, one of the best parts of Trunk or Treat is the decorated cars. I’m not even sure how people come up with some of these trunk-or-treat ideas. But if you’re like me and maybe not the most creative (but I can 100% recreate other people’s ideas lol) then this is the list for you! Hopefully, it will provide some inspiration for you. And even if you don't go quite as "all out" as these people did, I'm sure your car will look amazing. Enjoy these trunk-or-treat ideas and have the best car in the parking lot this spooky season. And be sure to tag us in your photos so we can see your creations!
Happy Halloween!
Hocus Pocus
This Hocus Pocus theme is sure to bring a smile to kids and adults alike. It also reminds me I need to watch the movies before Halloween!
Inside Out
It will take a commitment both financial and time, but I am loving this Inside Out themed trunk. The best part is the interactive twist. What fun!
Monster Teeth
This one is fairly simple but still looks awesome! It could be done pretty affordably as well!
If You Truly Want To Win Halloween
I don't have the time or money to attempt this, but if you do you are sure to win! This may be the best all-around trunk or treat I've ever seen.

But also this is exactly what every parent tells their child to avoid. So maybe don't try this one?
Jurassic Park
I'm loving this Jurassic Park themed one. It almost has me convinced I'm in the land (or at least the safer one at Universal Studios).
