Charlotte Teen Almost Loses An Eye In Latest Tik Tok Challenge
It’s the latest Tik Tok challenge that has teens shooting water pellets at each other and now a Charlotte teen is recovering from an eye injury. The challenge is called the “Orbeez Challenge”. It involves using air guns to shoot Orbeez gel beads at people.
Police say the pellets feel like a gel when they are submerged in water. But some say the kids are taking it to another level. Instead of just using the plastic pellets as is, kids are freezing them. And that’s when police say injuries can turn a little more serious.
That’s what happened to Olympic High School student Ana Rosa Alonso. She says while at school last week she felt a sharp stinging in her eye. She’d been shot by a Nerf gun with an Orbeez bullet. Her mother took her to the doctor to get her checked out. She suffers from blurred vision and light still hurts her eye.
And Alonso isn’t the only victim of the Tik Tok challenge. Police in Raleigh say they have their own problems with teens shooting the Nerf guns. A woman riding her bike was shot in the leg recently.
Police say the water guns have become a fad. Stores say they are having a hard time keeping these nerf-type guns in stock. Police are warning kids that shooting these guns at people could lead to an assault charge. Police in Ranlo, NC say they are working with the District Attorney’s office.
