Saks Department Store Slammed For Selling Gold Afro Picks For $600
Your afro pick from the 70’s is now a rare piece of art. That’s according to Saks Department Store that is now selling gold Afro picks for $600. The high-end department store says it’s selling rare art, but social media users say it disrespects Black culture.
On Saks website, they offer three styles of the ‘Afro pick’, in gold and ranging in size and price — from $300 to $600. Afra is the designer and also offers other ‘Afro pick’ accessories including the small hair clip in the shape of an afro pick.
The website says the Afro Pick Comb is “designed for the confident & traditional trendsetter: featuring a high shine plate with prestige flowing through every bristle. Designed exclusively for you and available while supplies last. Be bold, be known, make your mark!”
Not everyone is a fan of Saks depiction of the gold ‘Afro pick’ as a work of art. Some on social media comment on how much it looks like the afro picks at any beauty supply store and even at the dollar tree!
Others commented, “They away stealing from us… Still unbelievable. I can find 3-4 in my house on any given day.”
Nonetheless, the “gold plated” ‘Afro Pick is on the market. The question is: who will actually buy this ‘not-so-rare piece of art’ for $300? Would you?
