Uh-Oh…The Price Of Netflix Is Going Up

Just when I thought I had a grip on my Netflix bill, the price is going up again. I can remember when getting Netflix was something I thought I could live without. Now, it’s something I literally CANNOT LIVE without!
Netflix says it will increase prices on plans in the United States and Canada. In the United States, the subscription price for the standard will increase to $15.49 (that’s a $1.50 jump). The basic plan will be $9.99 ($1 jump) and the premium plan will increase by $2 to $19.99.
As for the reason behind the increase? Netflix’s spokesperson says, “We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget.” I believe that’s the same explanation they gave the last time they increased the prices in 2020.
I would imagine it’s just basic economics and good business. Netflix has spent billions of dollars on all of its content. Content I love, by the way. How does recover from all that spending? Unfortunately, by passing it on to the consumer and raising prices.
Remember when as a Netflix customer you had the option to receive the CD’s in the mail or stream it? That was BEFORE ‘streaming’ was a thing. Anyway, I have since grown accustomed to shelling out the $10 bucks it used to cost to have access to Netflix. I even sucked it up to dish out the $2 more for it.
Well, I guess I’ll have to suck it up once again. Afterall, who is REALLY giving up Netflix in today’s climate? Apparently, I’m not the only one. Netflix added 4.4 million subscribers last October to bring its global subscribers to 213.5 million.
