GospelSHOUT Music Event Returns To West Charlotte
It is one of the most popular concert events that usually attracts hundreds. The GospelSHOUT music event returns to West Charlotte on April 9.
It is a free event that is a fan favorite for lovers of the gospel or just plain ole good music. If you’re attending for the first time, GospelSHOUT is anything but plain. Brace yourself for some foot-stomping, high-energy music that oftentimes calls for audience participation. That just means there are musical segments that oftentimes require a call-and-response from the audience. This is part of the charm and the reason for its popularity.
GospelSHOUT includes what is called “shout bands” — a tradition common in the United House of Prayer. It’s a style of music that features high-energy trombones, tubas, drums as well some good ole gospel singing. It’s a tradition of brass, soul, and praise that is now a part of the CharlotteSHOUT festival.
Cedric Magnum produces the gospel event. He tells QCity Metro the music is the magic. He says, “When a dozen or more trombones get going, plus tuba and drums, it’s not hard to ‘feel the spirit move.”
The event includes a featured band, The Bailey Clouds of Heaven. In addition, two vocal choirs, the Bailey Stringband, and the Bailey Golden Angels will also perform.
And of course, you can’t have good music without good food. The House of Prayer’s cafeteria will open at 6 pm, offering soul food dinners for purchase. The concert starts at 7:30 pm at the United House of Prayer’s “Mother House” church, 2321 Beatties Ford Road (just south of I-85).
