When I first met Keema Mingo, I thought she was a burst of positive energy! Not only does she have a zest for life, she has a real passion for writing for Black people and Women in general. More specifically, she loves writing for Black Women. Those are her words! And she’s done just that — and with excellence.
Mingo is an award-winning director, writer, producer, casting director nd describes herself in her bio as “a blend of Shonda Rhimes, Mara Brock Akil and Yvette Lee Bowser with a splash of Regina King and Debbie Allen.” Some of her credits include Shots Fired (FOX), Mindhunter (NETFLIX) and even a feature film Oprah’s The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
I got a chance to talk to her about her latest project in which she served as Co-Producer and Casting Director. The film is called “Goodbye, Butterfly” and was shot in Salisbury, NC. Mingo describes it as a psychological thriller that will appeal to a wide array of audiences. She adds, if you’re into cult classics this film is for you.

When the official police investigation hits a dead end, Ryan has a chance encounter with Stan Granger (Andy Lauer “Iron Man 3”), an oddball neighbor from down the street, and becomes convinced that Stan is the killer. But, after the police ignore his suspicions, Ryan’s obsession with Stan quickly turns violent and, as he takes the law into his own hands.
SPECIAL CAMEO: You’ll see a familiar face in the film. V 101.9’s very own Francene Marie has a reporter role in the film.

Mingo says she has more on the horizon and looks to do more casting in the Charlotte area. Who knows? You just may see a “Diva” in her next film.
