‘Titanic’ Director James Cameron Has New North Carolina Museum Exhibit
Am I the only person that was weirdly obsessed with everything about the Titanic as a child? I watched every documentary and read every book I could get my hands on. Perhaps it was the fact that my parents wouldn’t allow me to watch the movie when it first came out. I mean I get it, I was pretty young, it was PG-13, and I mean we’ve all seen it. I still think most of it would have gone over my head though. At this point, I’ve seen the movie countless times and it’s one of my all-time favorites. And to this day I can still be a little bit of a Titanic nerd. Something about the story is just fascinating to me. That’s why when I saw that ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron had a new exhibit at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences my interest peaked.
The exhibit is entitled ‘James Cameron Challenging The Deep’ and focuses on Cameron’s passion for the deep ocean. Yeah, you know that whole part at the beginning of ‘Titanic’ where they visit the wreckage? Stuff like that is what this exhibit is about.
A description of the North Carolina Museum of Nature Sciences explains the exhibit in this way:
Immerse yourself in an underwater world. The exhibition traces explorer and filmmaker James Cameron’s passion for deep-ocean science, technology and exploration, including his record-breaking dive to the bottom of the ocean in the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER – the submersible he co-designed and co-engineered.
Experience how Cameron’s passion for exploring our ocean shone a light on the least-known place on Earth. This immersive exhibition takes you into a deep-ocean environment using cinema-scale projections, artifacts and specimens from his expeditions. Explore the deepest ocean and discover the shipwrecks of Titanic and the German battleship Bismarck. Learn how technologies pioneered by Cameron for underwater recording, lighting, communication and diving are employed in both his filmmaking and exploration. You’ll also see original film props and costumes from “The Abyss” and “Titanic,” including the iconic Heart of the Ocean diamond. Discover the world of a man driven to explore and meet the challenges of the deep.
How To Visit:
The museum is in Raleigh and the exhibit will be there from October 15, 2022 – May 7, 2023. That’s plenty of time to check it out. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10am-5pm. Museum members receive free admission otherwise tickets are $16 for adults and slightly cheaper for kids and seniors.
