Old Eastland Mall Skate Park Shuts Down In Charlotte
We knew it would only be a matter of time before a developer got their hands on the old Eastland Mall property. Now the former mall-turned DIY Skate Park is no more. The Eastland DIY Skate Park closed on March 3.
Back in August, Mecklenburg County commissioners approved an agreement with the city that would provide tax incentives for new development. That new development will manifest into a $26 million project.
That project will include mixed-income housing, a park, greenways, businesses, and a full-service grocery store. The site will also include entertainment venues. The biggest attraction, however, will be the Charlotte FC (Football Club) headquarters.
With all the hype around the headquarters for Charlotte’s professional soccer team, the idea isn’t so popular with the Queen City’s skateboarding community.
Demolition of the skate park is slated to begin March 4.
