USPS Gets A New Look With High-Tech Mail Trucks
It’s been 30 years since we’ve seen a new U.S. Postal Service mail truck, but it’s finally here! A new and improved mail delivery truck will replace the existing box-looking wagon mail carriers use.
And I couldn’t be happier. Let’s face it, the old mail trucks had no modern technology, including no air-conditioning. And they were just plain ugly, in my opinion.
Thanks to a 10-year multi-billion dollar contract with Oshkosh Defense, a fleet of NEW mail delivery trucks will is on the horizon. And these NEW vehicles feature 360-degree cameras, advanced braking and a collision avoidance system that also gives mail drivers visual and audio warning. Nice!
More than 230,000 vehicles will be replaced with the new trucks. The USPS plans to order anywhere between 50,000 to 165,000 trucks. You can expect to see them on the road by 2023.
USPS undertook a major step toward an investment in its future with a production contract for a next generation delivery vehicle. The vehicle award is part of a 10-year plan to improve customer service, achieve financial stability and better support the postal workforce.
