Both President Donald Trump and VP Candidate Sen. Kamala Harris In Charlotte Area Yesterday for Campaign Events
Both President Donald Trump and VP Candidate Sen. Kamala Harris were in the Charlotte area yesterday for campaign events — Harris in Uptown and Trump in Gastonia. Here’s a quick recap of the eventful day.
After landing in Charlotte around 2 p.m., Harris headed to Plaza Midwood to meet with Social Status owner James Whitner. He showed her the shop’s limited edition Converse covered in phrases like “2020,” “vote,” and “Black lives matter.”
Meanwhile in Gastonia, thousands of people gathered ahead of Trump’s rally that evening. The atmosphere felt like a fair — open fields and long lines. Guests had their temperature checked upon entry, but after that there was very little social distancing and mixed use of face masks.
Around 7 p.m., Harris spoke to a socially distanced audience of about 50 at Truist Field in Uptown. She was joined by Mayor Vi Lyles, Congresswoman Alma Adams, and other speakers.
“If you love someone, tell them to vote,” Harris told the crowd.
Just a few minutes after Harris took the stage in Uptown, Trump arrived in Gastonia speaking to thousands of supporters. Among other topics, he spoke of North Carolina’s Lumbee tribe and promised to get full federal recognition for them. Biden has also promised this for the Lumbees, NC’s largest tribe.
“Get out and vote,” Trump urged supporters. “From Asheville to Charlotte, from Wilmington and Raleigh, and from Greensboro to right here in Gastonia.”
Why here?North Carolina is a key swing state. How the state votes could determine who the next president is. Turnout has been high so far with already over 2 million people voting in NC. It’s only 12 days left until the election.
