Blue Ridge Parkway, Great Smokies, State Parks and More Close Facilities in North Carolina
Man, all I wanted to do is go hiking this weekend. I have been trapped in my home for what feels like 1,000 days (in reality only three) and now I can’t even enjoy nature the right way!
Yes, I am frustrated, sad and angry. This is apparent. Why? Well, due to the CDC’s recommendations on social-distancing (keeping at least 6 feet from other individuals) now our state parks, campgrounds, and visitor centers are closed due to the coronavirus. The National Park Service announced that it is also closing visitors centers in the Great Smoky Mountains, Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Cape Lookout National Seashore, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial.
In addition, the private, ticketed attraction part of Chimney Rock is closed at this time. But there is one good thing though, trails and restrooms will remain open to the public. Some guidelines if you do decide to get out in the outdoors this weekend include washing your hands frequently, avoid sharing food, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing and keep some distance between you and other hikers whenever possible.
