People Are Moving To South Carolina In Droves But Which States Are They Coming From
I live in South Carolina, so, I see the growth exploding over the last few years. Census numbers indicate more and more people are moving to South Carolina. But, which states show the most migration to the Palmetto State?
Moving To South Carolina And Where Folks Are Coming From
According to The Sun News, census data points to 10 states in particular with the most people moving to South Carolina. Just last year, the numbers show more than 200,000 people came to South Carolina from other states. And, leading the pack was North Carolina. That’s understandable since North Carolina borders the Palmetto State. In fact, I am one of those who jumped across the state line a couple of years ago.
My son is a student at Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina. And, it made financial sense to hop on over to benefit from in state tuition rates. I still, however, work in North Carolina. So, perhaps there are others like me who straddle the fence between the Carolinas. Whatever the case, more than 28,000 people moving to South Carolina did so from North Carolina last year.
Falling in line right behind North Carolina with the most people moving to South Carolina was Georgia at just over 17,000.
So, why are people moving to South Carolina in droves? A study cited in the article found a large number are retirees. Some move for jobs, others for lifestyle change or to be near family. And, why not? It’s a very lovely place to live.
Many years ago we lived in Greenville, South Carolina. It’s one of our favorite places we’ve ever lived. And now, in the Indian Land/Fort Mill area, we enjoy living in the state again!
