Blind Sports Day and White Cane Day
Give it up for Shannon Houlihan, the Executive Director of Para Guide Foundation. The Carolina based 501c3 nonprofit was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2017. Many of us know someone, who knows someone, who is supporting adaptive athletes. It’s all about accessibility, inclusion, and equity, Para Guide is elated about the many moving parts to include: sighted guides for adaptive athletes who want to explore walking, running, cycling and also jumping in for a swim.
The organization has trained 225+ volunteers like us to guide blind athletes. This is going to be fun! Mark your calendars for October 16th to celebrate Blind Sports Day and White Cane Day with Mecklenburg Park and Recreation, Metrolina Association for the Blind, and the Charlotte Independence. Also in October this amazing group will offer their final virtual event of the year in partnership with OrthoCarolina.
