South Carolina Home To The Best Small College Town For 2024
Are you proud of your college town? Maybe it was a charming little town that helped you launch your independence. And, according to Travel+Leisure, the best small college town for 2024 is in South Carolina.
South Carolina Has The Best Small College Town
Although I didn’t attend college in Clemson, South Carolina, I do have close friends who did and do. And, the latest ‘America’s Small Towns of 2024’ list from the travel publication named Clemson the best small college town.
There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere swirling around Clemson, especially on game days in Fall. Tiger fans and alum take their football seriously. And, the tailgate experience is like no other I’ve seen. For several years in the ’90s when we worked in Greenville, we made a point to attend the big rival game between Clemson and South Carolina.
Our Experience Tailgating In The Best Small College Town
A co-worker of ours was a fierce supporter and made sure we took in the whole scene. His family even had their own designated parking spot for tailgating. Plus, like a community, the folks in the neighboring spots all knew each other and shared food, fellowship and a cold beer or two.
And, the scene was electric, buzzing. The die hard fans all coming together with one goal in mind…to show their pride and push the team to another victory. I think that comes from the fact that although the school population is by no means small, the town of Clemson is a small town with all the charm and warmth you expect. So, it’s understandable Clemson made the list as best small college town.
In fact, when we asked our friend what time we should arrive for the game, he said about 7. We told him that was too late since the game started at 7 p.m. And, that’s when he told us he meant 7 a.m. LOL. So, we picked up the Fatz Cafe grub the night before and had it ready to take to our tailgate bright and early the next morning!
