Debt Increasing? Residents Of This North Carolina City Are Accruing the Most Debt
So many people are feeling it right now. I know I look at people and the pictures they post on social media and think how are they doing this? The truth is, they probably can’t. In many cases what you’re watching is their debt increasing. And I’m not here to say don’t take out some money for that once-in-a-lifetime trip. Just to take a deeper look at the growing trend of debt increasing.
Data shows that Americans owe more than $2.7 trillion on their auto loans, credit cards, and personal loans. This comes to us from our friends at the personal finance website WalletHub.
Debt Increasing
And today WalletHub released its report on the Cities Where People Are Adding the Most Debt to highlight emerging areas of concern. WalletHub reports that Americans have “$1.1 trillion in credit card debt, $1.6 trillion in auto loans, and a few hundred billion dollars in personal loans”. ‘
But while the total debt is shocking, and yes it is something we should worry about. It’s not the only thing. Another eye-raising trend is the speed at which we are adding new debt. WalletHub says that America’s total household debt went up by $39 billion just in 2023. That’s a lot of money.
But in which cities is the debt increasing the most? To answer this question WalletHub ranked 100 of the largest US Cities based on the increase of credit card, auto loan, and personal loan debt from Q1 to Q2 of 2024. Below is how the 5 largest NC cities ranked:
- Greensboro (7th)
- Raleigh (25th)
- Durham (73rd)
- Charlotte (87th)
- Winston-Salem (100th)
Greensboro and Raleigh are the worst, with the other three cities well within the bottom percentage. And Winston-Salem? Yall must be doing something right! Perhaps I need to make the move.
