Lil Wayne Might Have To Testify In YSL Rico Trial
Lil Wayne might have to go to court soon to testify in the YSL Rico trial. According to AllHipHop, a Georgia judge might request for Weezy (born Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr.) to testify if video evidence related to a 2015 tour bus shooting is brought into court.
On Wednesday (May 1), prosecutors attempted to play videos of Weezy speaking to Young Thug about the 2015 incident but Judge Ural Glanville would not allow the prosecution introduce the videos unless Lil Wayne testified.
“It seems like you all are trying really hard not to call [Lil Wayne] and that’s your choice,” Glanville told D.A. Adriane Love, per the publication.
Glanville added: “If you don’t call him, my ruling will stand on these particular exhibits that you are trying to introduce.”
An affiliate of Young Thug named PeeWee Roscoe (born Jimmy Winfrey) was accused of shooting Lil Tunechi’s tour bus. Winfrey was sentenced to 10 years in prison following his guilty plea to six of the 27 charges he faced for the shooting. In addition to the 10-year prison sentence, he also had ten years of probation. However, in 2018, his conviction was overturned. In 2020, Winfrey entered an Alford plea which allowed the defendant maintain their innocence even though they pleaded guilty.
While it’s still up in the air if Lil Wayne will take the stand, Alvin Lewis, who is Wayne’s tour bus driver, is expected to be in court on Monday (May 6). Lewis sued Young Thug, Birdman and Winfrey over the shooting in 2016.
As for Young Thug, he was arrested in May 2022 and has been in jail since then. His trial began in November 2023.
