Michelle Obama, From the Southside to the White House
Michelle Obama changed the game when it came down to being a First Lady. Michelle Obama is the wife of the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama. She was the first African American first lady to get the role and brought so much change to the White House.
Michelle Obama was born January 17th in the Southside of Chicago and grew up with a love for education. After graduating high school, she then went on to earn her B.A. in sociology from Princeton University. Later on, she went on to attend law school at Harvard Law. Michelle met Barack when he was a summer intern and the two married in 1992. Throughout their relationship, Barack got involved in politics and in 2008 he became the first African American elected as President of the United States.
Michelle Obama entered into the White House as First Lady and didn’t take her position lightly. Throughout her time in the White House, she focused on initiatives such as healthy families, service members and their families, higher education, and international adolescent girls education. During her time, she began the “Let’s Move!” initiative to work tackle childhood obesity in the country. Through this initiative, officials called for healthier snacks and food options in schools throughout the country. This led to her focus effecting children throughout the entire country.
Throughout her time in the White House, not only did she focus on helping children in the country but also dedicated her time to raising her own two daughters, Sasha and Malia. Now, she continues to help families throughout the country and flourish in her marriage with Barack Obama.
