Two North Carolina Mountain Towns Named Best To “Escape The Rat Race”
Let’s face it, most of us probably dream of being financially stable enough we can leave the daily grind behind. I always say I wish I could work because I wanted to not because I had to. But I’ll have to win the lottery (which I don’t play) for that to ever be the case. However, if you’re lucky enough to be able to slow down and enjoy life you’ll be glad to know that two North Carolina towns were named the best to “escape the rat race”.
This is according to a study by Joy Organics which named the 150 best US Cities at Towns to “Escape The Rat Race”. The two NC towns featured on the list are both tucked away in the mountains of the state. One is a city in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the other is a quaint mountain town. JoyOrganics says that the cities and towns on this list are the “most sought-after towns and cities” for “those waiting to distance themselves from the relentless pace of the rat race”.
North Carolina Places To Escape The Rat Race
And boy does that sound tempting! While I personally prefer the beach over the mountains I will say both of these places are two of my favorite places to visit. Ranking highest of the North Carolina spots to escape the rat race is Asheville, NC. Asheville has a personality of its own from the downtown drum circle, thriving culinary scene, and my personal favorite the grandeur of the Biltmore Estate and Omni Grove Park Inn. It’s easy to see there is something for everyone in this city of less than 100,000 residents. Of course, being in the mountains offers endless opportunities for outdoor activities. It does sound like a perfect place to go to get away from that corporate grind that can be so all-encompassing.
The other spot? Blowing Rock North Carolina. Blowing Rock is nested in the mountains just off the Blue Ridge Parkway a few miles from the college town of Boone. This small mountain town offers quiet mountain living surrounding a quaint downtown. On Main Street, you’ll find a variety of restaurants, boutiques, galleries, and antique stores as well as a park. Simple, and laid back are two of the first words that come to my mind when I think of Blowing Rock. Which is the exact opposite of the rat race mentality. In fact, I’m hoping to escape up there one weekend soon when snow is in the forecast!
