(Photo by Paras Griffin/Getty Images for Strength Of A Woman Festival & Summit)It happens far too often - people getting scammed while in search of a potential love. According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), nearly 70,000 people reported a romance scam last year. One reality TV star who fell victim to a con artist wants to make sure others avoid the same fate.
Reality show star Jennifer Williams of VH1's 'Basketball Wives' thought she could fall for this guy. He was handsome and charming -- until he wasn't. He managed to con her out of her money, and assets and worst of all took advantage of her kindness.
And the feds say, unfortunately, that's nothing new. In fact, the number of reported losses last year hit an astonishing $1.3 billion last year. William's getting scammed motivated her to become more proactive. She wants to make sure the con artist can't continue to prey on innocent people.
Hear William's story.
