Hundreds To Gather In Charlotte For Divine 9 Greek Picnic
As the weather heats up, look for hundreds of people from Black Greek-letter organizations to descend upon the Queen City for the Carolina’s Greek Picnic scheduled for May 26-28 at Johnson C. Smith University.
The picnic also includes a full weekend of parties and community events. Charlotte will join other cities like Atlanta, Nashville, Tennessee and Houston in hosting Greek picnics. Local co-organizer Jonah Gilyard Jr. talked to QCity Metro. “I felt like we needed something to take pride in and have for ourselves and not have to travel to all these other Greek picnics when we have something right at home.”
Why Charlotte?
Charlotte is a midway point between North Carolina and South Carolina. It’s easy access. For example, people coming from Florida, Georgia and Virginia can travel straight here. Organizers say it’s the perfect central location. And ticket sales seem to prove that theory. So far, over 750 tickets have been sold for the weekend.
What’s Happening During Greek Picnic Weekend?

Friday, May 26 – Three Kick off day parties – Helluava Day Party, The Pre-Game, Pretty Iced OWT (all for 21+)
Saturday, May 27 – Picnic, Noon – 7pm @ Johnson C. Smith University; After Parties following the picnic – Animal House, Off The Leash
Sunday, May 28 – Day party night party and community service –
Organizers say the community service project was intentional. It was important for them to leave a positive impact on the Charlotte community. For the project, the group with bag up food and donate to some of the homeless across Charlotte. The project also includes a campus clean-up at Johnson C. Smith University. It’s an effort to show appreciation to the school for allowing use of their space.
