West Charlotte High School Retires NBA Player Patrick Williams’ Jersey
Today was a special day for one of Charlotte’s very own. West Charlotte High School retired the jersey of Patrick Williams.
Williams is a 2019 graduate of the historic high school. While there, he was a 4-year starter on the varsity basketball team and led the Lions to the 4A Championship game in 2019. He played in the 2019 Jordan Brand Classic, was named the Mecklenburg county Player of the Year by the Charlotte Observer, and finished his high school career with 1,787 points scored, 749 rebounds, and 310 assists.

After graduation, Williams played at Florida State for a year before being selected by the Chicago Bulls with the fourth overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. He made his NBA debut on December 23, 2020 as a starter for the Bulls, scoring 16 points against the Atlanta Hawks. In 2021 he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team.
During the ceremony, which took place in the brand new Charles A. McCullough, Sr. Athletic Center, Williams said, “I always wanted to be in the NBA, that was my goal, that was my dream. I can say that the people that I met along the way helped push that dream along. I wouldn’t be standing here if it wasn’t for a lot of the people in this room.”
