Trichotillomania also known as TTM is a mental health disorder where a person pulls out or breaks their hair. This condition falls under the classification of obsessive-compulsive disorder, aka OCD. Many times a person with trichotillomania may experience the following behaviors of compulsive pulling of their hair without knowing it. You might feel a sense of relief after pulling your hair. The biggest issue is the inability to stop, especially during bouts of anxiety and stress. Parents may notice that their teen may develop “trich” around age 12 years of age. Most physicians notice that more than 50 percent of those females will be diagnosed. Compulsive hair-pulling often results in thinning hair, but people will pick at eyebrows, eyelashes, and or body hair.
