Children With Undiagnosed IBD
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, can affect people of all ages, ethnicities, and genders. But there are people who experience delayed diagnoses and incorrect treatments. For children with undiagnosed IBD, it can be acts of delayed growth and social isolation. When left undiagnosed and untreated, IBD can have serious consequences for a patient’s long-term health and well-being. For years I have known a small pocket of people with Crohn’s disease.
The Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation has created a campaign called “Spill Your Guts” to teach viewers what IBD symptoms can look like. When they press their doctors for answers sometimes answers come years later. Crohn’s disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease that causes swelling of the tissues. Our digestive tract can lead to abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, weight loss, and malnutrition. Experts think that an autoimmune reaction may be one cause.
