North Carolina Is Home to One of the Best “Castles” in America

It is a North Carolina must-see to visit the Biltmore Estate. A beautiful place to visit, it's a very majestic and historic location. Located in Asheville, the estate spans 8,000 acres and dates back to the 1890s. The Biltmore has 43 bathrooms, 35 bedrooms, and 65 fireplaces, just to name a few features of its 180,000 square feet.

Have you ever dreamed about what it is like to be a princess/prince? Or maybe even straight to king/queen? A North Carolina mansion is one of the most dazzling castles in America. Honestly, growing up I always thought castles were homes in forests somewhere around the world. Never did I really think I would be close to or even see a castle in person. They just always seemed like such a part of a fantasy we had as children. I guess I was wrong with that one.

Conde Nast Traveler curated a list of the top 9 most dazzling castles in America for 2022. Lucky for us, the Biltmore Estate located in Asheville, North Carolina made the list. The Biltmore Estate is America’s largest home. The over 8,000 acres estate is one of the most beautiful and largest pieces of property in the country. Overall, the castle dynamic offers up so many things for you to be able to experience as a guest at the Biltmore Estate. Enjoy all things from a winery, an inn, a garden, and so much more you will truly feel like royalty during your visit.

The Biltmore Estate was built in 1895 and the family-owned mansion has design inspiration coming from French Renaissance châteaus to make you feel like you have taken a trip out of the Carolinas. The beautiful home is a National Historic Landmark and is recognized as America’s largest home. Afterward, while visiting the Biltmore Estate, enjoy all the things surrounding you in Asheville to make your time even better.

Biltmore Estate Is The Most Pet-Friendly Attraction In North Carolina

Do you love traveling with your pet? It can be hard to leave them at home but knowing where you can vacation and bring them along can also be a challenge. If you’re looking for a pet-friendly attraction then look no further. According to GoPetFriendly Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC is the most pet-friendly attraction in North Carolina. I was actually just at Biltmore this past weekend and I can confirm there were lots and lots of dogs on the property. And considering the estate is 8,000 acres that’s a lot of space for your furry friends.

When you think of Biltmore your mind, understandably, goes to the lavish 250 room home. It’s “America’s Largest Home” but the mansion which opened on Christmas Eve in 1985 is just part of the attraction of the estate. A little later on I’ll tell you about many of the other activities which are perfect to bring along your trusted companion. There are references to Vanderbilt dogs all over the property, one, in particular, is Cedric at St. Bernard. Cedric even has a restaurant named after him (and it’s one I highly recommend!)

  • Here are the pet rules (directly from Biltmore's Website):

    You won’t have to leave anyone behind. The grounds are perfect for walking your pets, but please keep them securely leashed at all times. Animals (except service animals) are not allowed in any building.

    Animals are allowed on the outdoor patios of Bistro and Cedric’s Tavern, but patio seating should be requested from the host or hostess inside first. All animals must be leashed on estate grounds for their own safety as well as the comfort of our other guests. Please be courteous of others and pick up after your animal.

    Pets are not permitted at any of the lodging accommodations on the estate. ADA-regulated service animals are allowed.

  • The Gardens

    One of the most breathtaking times to visit Biltmore is the spring. Take a stroll through the iconic rose gardens, walled garden, and other garden trails are the perfect spot to walk with your pet. Bring some food and enjoy a picnic with a view of the Blue Ridge Mountains as well. On busy days the Conservatory restaurant will be open as well on the back patio. This is another great spot to hang out with pets!

  • Hike The Trails

    With over 23 miles of trails, you can certainly burn some energy off. There are both paved and unpaved options. A few months ago I hiked the Lagoon Trail it was just over 3 miles round trip and came with picturesque views of the Biltmore House. This was one of the easier options but there are plenty for whatever you’re looking for.

  • Visit Antler Hill Village

    There are multiple restaurants with patios, a wine bar, a barn, and more. Or if you’re tired from your hiking the Village Green is the perfect spot to rest, listen to some music, and take in the excitement.

  • Visiting The House

    Pets aren’t allowed in the house but do not fear. According to GoPetFriendly.com there are outdoor kennels available for no charge to visitors. The kennels are in a shaded location with concrete floors, and are divided with concrete block and sheets of plywood.  Locks are provided on each kennel, however you’ll need to bring a water bowl for your dog.
