I’m sure you’re reading the caption and thinking what in the world is she talking about? Yes, I’m here to tell you Cheerios are very effective potty training tools.

I have two boys. My oldest is almost 15 and my youngest is 5. Potty training boys wasn’t hard, but it wasn’t easy either. I kept having the issue of getting their aim together. LOL. I tried so many different things. I was given advice of having them go to the bathroom with their Dad when we were out and about. It did help, but nothing helped and was more effective than using Cheerios.

I’m sure you’re thinking how in the world can Cheerios help with potty training? Well, I came up with the idea after my sister bought some Cheerios on sale and found out her boyfriend didn’t eat Cheerios. So, she gave them to me thinking my son might like them. While I used to be a fan of Honey Nut Cheerios, I wasn’t a fan of regular cheerios. I didn’t want a perfectly good box of cereal to go to waste. That’s when the idea that I thought was super crazy at the time, popped in my head. The thought was, put them in the toilet.

Once the crazy idea popped into my head, I decided to run with it. I took a few Cheerios and put them in the toilet and told my son to aim. for the Cheerios. He thought it was a game and the most fun game known to man. Every time he felt the need to go to the restroom, he wanted to grab Cheerios and throw them in the toilet. Even though I had to keep Cheerios in my purse in a ziplock bag, I’m pleased to say that we never had another accident after that. I ended up using the same method with my youngest son and it still worked ten years later the same way it did with my oldest. I hope this potty training hack works for you too.
