CMPD Says Charlotte Bus Driver Killed In Road Rage Incident
This is such a heartbreaking story to write. A 41-year-old Charlotte CATS bus driver was just doing his job, driving the city bus in uptown Friday night (February 11) when he was shot and killed. CMPD say the bullet that struck him was the result of a road-rage incident. Ethan Rivera lost control of the bus after shots were fired in the 500 block of West Trade Street.
Rivera was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Four passengers were on the bus at the time, but none of them were hurt.
Rivera’s family says he had moved to North Carolina from New York, hoping to give his son and daughter a better life. He’d only worked for CATS for a couple of years. His family described him as a carrying person who “wore his heart on his sleeve.” His family had planned a vacation in Mexico in July.
At this writing, police have not made any arrests in the case. They are working with CATS to retrieve videos and photos of the shooting. Anyone who was in Uptown Friday night is encouraged to call police with what they know or saw. You can remain anonymous and contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
The Rivera family is accepting donations through a GoFundMe page.
