These Wedding Meals Lead To Higher Divorce Rates
Kim and Kanye’s marriage has reportedly been rocky in recent months, but they may be ok based on their wedding meal. That’s right, certain wedding meals correlate with higher divorce rates. And lucky for the West’s, risotto, like was served at their wedding has a very good rate. The survey, conducted by Divorce Answers surveyed 1,000 divorcees to find out their wedding meal of choice. From this, they concluded the wedding meal that is most likely to end in divorce, and which is best for a long and happy marriage.
It’s important to keep in mind correlation does not equal causation and there are certain meals that are going to be more commonly served, therefore more commonly associated with divorce. Still, it’s interesting to take a look.

Risotto, which Kim and Kanye had for their guests, was served by none of the surveyed divorcees at their wedding. Lamb, while also non a go-to for a menu was served at less than 1%. Unsurprisingly chicken topped the list with beef coming in second. Maybe opt for the seafood or at least the steak. That chicken, while more economical in price just doesn’t have good odds. At least if you’re superstitious that is.
DivorceAnswers spoke with Lauren Cook-McKay a marriage and family therapist about the findings. This is what she had to say:
“It’s interesting to see that even though beef is universally the top choice for wedding meal main courses, chicken has a much higher divorce rate. Chicken is the ‘safe’ choice, so could it be that couples choosing chicken at their wedding are more likely to be in marriages of convenience, or less passionate relationships?
Fish and vegetarian meals are becoming increasingly prominent at weddings as people become more environmentally conscious; pescatariansim, vegetarianism and veganism are all on the rise, with meat and poultry sales dropping 4.1 percent (according to Nielsen data for the 52 weeks ending 26 March) in stores over the past year, while seafood sales remained steady, growing 0.1 percent. With vegetarian risotto and the fish options all looking pretty unlikely to end in divorce according to the data, we could see a dip in divorce rates!”
Study Methodology
Divorce Answers surveyed 1000 divorcees on the meal they served at their wedding in order to see which meals were most likely to end in divorce. The higher the percentage of divorcees who served a certain food, the more likely said food is to end in divorce.
