When Do Bees Poop – Fun Bee Facts
Yes, bees fart, and I bet it smells just like honey. I’ve heard so many tales about bees that I thought I’d find the sweet spots since bee’s will be hanging around the garden patio and picnics for a while. Bees defecate several times a week outside the hive, because they keep their living space pretty clean, and you won’t find them using the outdoor toilet in winter months, and I don’t blame them. Some people refer to honey as bee vomit, but is it? Bees have an interesting digestive tract and the food they eat breaks down within their stomach and needs to pass through.
If you’re concerned about the life of bees, you’re not alone. The Bee Conservancy is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting bees, safeguarding the environment, and securing food justice through education, research, habitat creation, and advocacy.
Bee stings: When you get stung by a bee, stay calm! If you have someone not too afraid, have them remove the stinger, wash the wound with soap and water and apply a cold pack to help with the swelling. For those who don’t have to be rushed to the hospital, possibly taking some over the counter Motrin or Advil may also help. If you have some anti-inflammatory cream or calamine lotion, rub that on the infected area.
Do you like beeswax? Evidently, beeswax is found beneath the belly of young honeybees who have four special glands that excrete liquid wax, kind of what sweat is to humans and as the honey bees grow up and mature the ability to produce glands become inactive. In some literature you’ll see that beeswax is poop, and raw honey and beeswax are the two main components of honeycomb. During cold and flu season I’m always on the hunt for raw honey at the market, because it’s rich in enzymes and antioxidants, while beeswax contains long-chain fatty acids and alcohols, but at the end of the day all the above benefit our well-being.
Bee Facts: Bees have 5 eyes and have 6 legs, but the male bees in the hive are called drones, and all fly around 20 mph. Now, the female bees in the hive with exception of the queen, are called worker bees. Somedays, the queen can lay 2,000 eggs per day. How can bees die? Besides us swatting them to death, if they loose its stinger, they’ll drop dead.
