Benefits of Rice Water
Desi Ventures is sharing how a fermented rice water rinse can make hair soft, shinny and grow! Desi has natural hair, and in her video she’s showing us 4 Simple Steps, well, 4 simple steps for most women in the natural hair world. She uses Aloe Vera as a Pre-poo, and 3 week old fermented rice water as a deep conditioning treatment! Yes, 3 weeks! Why? Because the Yao women, who live in a village called Huangluo in China, are famed for having hair that averages 6 feet long, so why wouldn’t we try to have the same length. Check out her instructional video, here.
Let’s go back in history to the women in the Heian period (794 to 1185 CE) in Japan who had floor-length hair they kept healthy by bathing it in rice water, and the modern day that I mentioned above is equivalent of this story found in China. Plus, the incredible length, the Yao women’s hair is said to keep its color for longer, as they do not begin to get gray hair until they reach their 80s.
The Yao women credit the length and color of their hair to the fact they bathe it in rice water, plus it has so many benefits, like:
- amino acids
- B vitamins
- vitamin E
- minerals
- antioxidants
