Naomi Campbell Covers Essence’s 50th Anniversary Issue, Shoots Her Own Cover
Naomi Campbell is covering Essence‘s 50th-anniversary issue, and the supermodel shot the cover herself during the quarantine.
She also did her own hair, makeup, and styling before taking her self portrait.
The cover that Campbell graces is the first-ever Essence magazine cover shot entirely on an iPhone. It also marks the first time in the publication’s 50-year history that a cover star acted as her own photographer.
In the featured titled “Self Portrait in Isolation,” Campbell talks about how her experience doing the cover brought her “hope” during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It was a very special honor and unusual experience for me to be able to shoot and style my own cover for Essence’ 50th Anniversary Issue,” Campbell said.
“While it was a sad reminder for me of all the people in media and production who are not able to work due to the coronavirus, it also brought me hope and encouragement to know that our people and our infrastructures are resilient.”
