Five Tips To Survive Working At Home With Your Spouse
We have all had to make some changes since the coronavirus pandemic. It has meant just about everybody working from home and that also means working with your spouse or significant other. It can be a little tricky, but some relationship experts say there are some attitudes and actions you can take to make it through. Here are five of them:
COMMUNICATE
It’s a good idea to start the day off with a rundown of what the day will look like for both of you. You can create and then review the day’s schedule.
HAVE A DESIGNATED ‘DO NOT DISTURB’ PLACE
I’m sure you understand the frustration when you’re just getting into your zone, and your spouse/significant other interrupts your flow to ask about the kids or what’s for dinner. The experts say you should specify a place and time where you don’t have any distractions.
DON’T TREAT YOUR SPOUSE LIKE A CO-WORKER
You’re already challenged by working from home away from the office and professional colleagues, so the experts warn don’t allow your ‘workplace attitude’ to interfere at home. They say it’s easy to ‘turn’ on your partner. Try to avoid that.
HAVE A CODE WORD
It’s for those moments when you think you’re about to break, it’s good to think about having a code word that will give your partner a warning before you ‘lose it.’ For example, “banana” or “doughnut” or my personal favorite “bustah.”
AVOID THE BEDROOM DURING WORKING HOURS
Do I need to say the obvious? Try to devote the bedroom space to your quiet time, perhaps light conversation or romance. And oh yeah, perhaps sleeping. Anyway, the experts advise trying to make that your sacred space.
