How many times do you experience heartburn?

Is there a better bar snack to munch on than nachos? It’s a hard sell to convince me otherwise. I can think of so many places I love to get nachos. And I’m not talking just chips and salsa or queso (though a definite guilty pleasure). Instead, I’m talking piled high with seemingly endless toppings type of nachos. Or a great way to get evenly distributed goodness- sheet pan nachos. RIP Rosemont, those were always a favorite of mine. But who has the best nachos? It’s a tough sell, and frankly I volunteer to test them all out. Unfortunately, Mashed already took one for the team and compiled a list.

From Tex Mex, to BBQ, to even seafood?! They created a list of the “absolute best” nachos in every state. So what took the title in the Carolinas? A Raleigh bar that I have frequented on many nights though never eaten at was North Carolina’s winner. And a Charleston BBQ spot comes in as the winner for South Carolina. If you missed it Charleston was also named one of the top foodie cities in America so they’ve got a lot going for them!   • North Carolina: Raleigh Times

    I’ll admit I’ve been to Raleigh Times on quite a few occasions. Though it was always at night as a bar, never to eat. But I still spend probably 10-12 weekends a year in Raleigh so I’ll have to add this one to my list. The nachos will cost you $13.95 and include fresh jalapeño, cilantro, cheddar and jack cheese blend, pico de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole. You also get your choice of proteins Chicken Tinga, Black Beans, The Pit Authentic BBQ’s Chopped Pork or Barbacoa which is an additional $3.00. You’ll find Raleigh Times downtown on Hargett Street.

  • South Carolina: Queology

    Taking the title of South Carolina’s best nachos is Queology in Charleston. These aren’t your typical Mexican restaurant/bar food nachos. These are BBQ lovers’ nachos. For $9 get a basket of crispy corn chips loaded with queso, jalapeno, cole slaw, BBq sauce, tomatoes, and onions. You can also add pulled chicken or pork for an additional $3.

  • Georgia: Manuel's Tavern

    This Atlanta establishment describes itself as “Atlanta’s Quintessential Neighborhood Bar”. And what is arguably the perfect bar food? Nachos of course. Manuel’s version of the sharable snack will cost you $8 for a half order or $10 for a full order. You can also add protein (BBQ pork, chicken, black beans, or chili) for an additional cost. The nachos come topped with jalapeño cheese dip, lettuce, tomato, green onions, and jalapeños and are served w/sour cream and salsa on the side. That’s loaded nachos if I’ve ever seen them!

  • Tennessee: Edley's BBQ

    This Nashville-style BBQ restaurant has multiple locations across Tennessee including, you guessed it, Nashville. There award-winning nachos are topped with smoked pork, chicken or brisket, nacho cheese, BBQ sauce, sour cream, pico de gallo & green onion. Sounds delicious to me!

  • Virginia: Galaxy Hut

    These are not your average nachos, in fact, they aren’t nachos at all. Instead, they are “tachos” aka tater tots instead of chips. I can get on board with that. The Arlington, VA vegetarian restaurant/beer joint tops their tachos with vegan aji amarillo cashew queso or dairy cheddar jack (give me the real cheese please!) green onions and your choice of additional toppings. I do love a good build your own!
