Five Ways To Stop Festive Decor Damaging Your Home

You often forget about damaging your home when putting up decorations at Christmas, which results in drilling unnecessary holes in walls, leaving tack marks from cards, ruining your carpet with the tree, and more. GTSE has put together five essential tips so you don’t damage your home this year. Thankfully, these five tips will help you out.

  • To Prevent Weight Marks From Your Tree On The Carpet, Use Plywood

    When you remove your Christmas tree and stand in the new year, you may see weight marks on your carpets, especially deep pile carpets. You can prevent this by placing the tree on top of a piece of plywood and then covering the wood and standing it with wrapping paper. Other heavy objects can also scratch hardwood floors, including tree stands. Take extra care when bringing the tree into the house by placing a non-skid mat underneath it.

  • Use Cable Ties And Clips

    You’ll probably hang seasonal decorations around the house during the holiday season. To avoid damaging your walls, use tools that don’t damage them. There are times when it is necessary to drill holes into walls in order to hang Christmas decorations, which leaves unnecessary holes. In order to make hanging decorations easier, and therefore make the post-Christmas clean-up much easier, there are a variety of products you can use:

    • Self-adhesive cable clips: These help you to hook hanging decorations up easily.
    • Self-adhesive cable ties: For hanging bulky decorations on your walls, being sturdy enough to hold them in place.

  • Use Ribbons To Avoid Marks On Walls And Surfaces

    Some people put up Christmas cards is part of decorating for Christmas. This method, however, leaves marks on walls and surfaces due to the heavy use of tack. Your Christmas cards should instead be hung with ribbons against the banister in your hallway. This avoids washing down tack in the new year! Simply to these things to help:

    • Apply craft glue to the ribbon.
    • All the way down the length of the ribbon, place your Christmas cards vertically against the glue.
    • Allow this newly created ‘bunting’ to cool on a surface.
    • Wrap the ribbon around the hallway banister and tie it tightly. Viola!

  • To Prevent Glitter From Going Everywhere, Use Non-Aerosol Hairspray

    Use hairspray to stop glittery baubles from shedding quickly and cheaply. Most people have it lying around the house. Keep the glitter in place by spraying the baubles with non-aerosol hairspray. If you want to keep the glitter in one place for a longer period of time, you can use a non-toxic acrylic sealant. Allow the sealant to dry before hanging your decorations around the house and on the tree!

  • Use Glass Cleaner And Paper Towels To Avoiding Damage To Your Windows From Artificial Snow Spray

    Firstly, be sure to protect the floor and surrounding walls when applying artificial snow spray to windows. Hold the can about 12 inches from the surface you want to apply it to.ย Remove the snow without scraping it as this can cause a bigger mess. Take a paper towel and rub the cleaner into the snow using a glass cleaner, ideally window cleaner. Grab a new paper towel if the paper towel begins to spread the snow. Just remember to clean carefully until the spray is completely cleaned.
