Wildly Popular WhataBurger To Open First Charlotte Store
A wildly popular burger fast-food restaurant has been given the green light to open its first store in Charlotte. Whataburger ® will set up shop in east Charlotte.
Mecklenburg County records show a zoning permit has been approved to build the Whataburger® at 12809 Albemarle Road near Rocky River Church Road, just outside of the I-485 loop. It will be a drive-thru and part of a development called Clear Creek Crossing.
What Makes Whataburger So Special?
If you aren’t familiar with Whataburger®, then you’ve likely not had one. The company was started 70 years ago by a man named Harmon Dobson from Wayne, Oklahoma. Though he was a country man, he had big and bold dreams. One of those was to create a burger that was so big it would take two hands to hold and would taste so delicious, that customers would declare “What a burger!” after taking a bite.
That vision started with a mere burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas, and carries on today where every Whataburger® continues to be made to order. They still use 100% pure beef that is never frozen. It’s served on a big, toasted five-inch bun. They are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To date, there are nearly 900 Whataburgers® across the country.
And they are continuing to grow in the Carolinas. According to a WBTV news report, Whataburger® officials say the Albemarle Road location will open in 2025.In addition to the east Charlotte (Albemarle Road) location, the fast-food chain plans to open locations in the Triangle and Spartanburg, SC.
Whataburger® has expanded across the U.S., including states like Georgia, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado.
