$6.5 Billion Mixed-Use Project Transforms South Charlotte Office Park
An exciting new district called The Bowl is coming to life across 20 acres in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area. The development combines 1,000 residential units with retail, restaurants, and a boutique hotel.
New roadways connect the development, with updated traffic systems ensuring smooth flow. An elevated walkway connects green spaces to retail areas. Three light rail stations will serve the area, part of Charlotte’s transit expansion planned for 2030.
This kicks off a massive transformation of 535 acres. The centerpiece features a 5,000-seat music venue, while Wegmans serves as the retail anchor. The streets come alive with people strolling between restaurants and shops.
Towering over the development, the Oro Ballantyne building reaches 26 stories high. Its 356 apartments represent something new for South Charlotte, it’s the tallest residential building in this part of the city.
The landscape features 100,000 native plants, alongside a newly restored creek. Stream Park covers six acres, connecting to broader trail systems through new pathways.
In 2017, Northwood Investors looked at the old golf course and outdated office buildings and saw potential. They envisioned streets bustling with shoppers and diners, even into the evening.
Plans include a sprawling one-acre beer garden from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery. Drybar joins numerous other retailers in a 90,000-square-foot shopping center.
Spacious sidewalks and easy-to-follow signage make walking simple. Established trees shade green spaces scattered between contemporary buildings.
Office space remains important, 4.5 million square feet of it. The development balances productive workspaces with places to relax and enjoy.
