Publix To Open New Store in South Charlotte, Bringing 150 Jobs
A huge new Publix will soon open its doors at 11525 Carmel Commons Blvd. The store is set to launch on March 12, 2025. With 55,000 square feet of space, this location will create 150 new jobs in south Charlotte, split between full-time and part-time roles.
This $28 million project adds to Charlotte’s thriving $10.2 billion food retail market. Publix bought the property for $4.5 million in 2015, turning an empty office building into their newest store.
In Charlotte’s packed grocery market, Publix holds fourth place with 10% of customer spending, behind Walmart, Harris Teeter, and Food Lion. The chain showed strong performance last year, bringing in $57.1 billion across all locations.
New stores keep popping up around the area. A 50,000-square-foot store is coming to Village Commons in Wesley Chapel. The Arboretum area is next up, with $5 million set aside for a new location at 7933 Providence Road.
There’s still uncertainty about their planned store at The Colony in SouthPark. Though they signed on as an anchor store four years ago, work hasn’t started yet.
Charlotte’s grocery scene continues to expand. Wegmans is looking to make a splash with a huge 110,000-square-foot store in Ballantyne by 2026. Meanwhile, Sprouts Farmers Market plans to open their NoDa store in the summer of 2025.
With more than 1,390 stores across the Southeast, including almost 60 in North Carolina, Publix keeps expanding. They have plans for six more stores in the Charlotte area.
This rush of new grocery stores shows big changes in Charlotte’s retail scene. Among the newcomers, Three Sisters Market aims to grab their piece of the local market.
