Caitlin Clark Named TIME Magazine’s Athlete of the Year
It’s official, Time Magazine is giving out their titles for 2024 and Caitlin Clark just received one of them. Clark has been named TIME Magazine’s Athlete of the Year for 2024.
The two-time college national player of the year while at the University of Iowa, WNBA Rookie of the Year, and more… Clark has been dominating the world of women’s basketball and basketball in general since she broke into the scene.
Caitlin Clark Wins Athlete of the Year
Clark has broken many records throughout her collegiate and professional career. TIME Magazine asked her to define her year in one word and the word she chose was historic. “I’ve been able to captivate so many people that have never watched women’s sports, let alone women’s basketball, and turn them into fans,” said Clark.
In the last year, the WNBA has seen an outrageous amount of attraction due to players such as Clark and Angel Reese who came in as rookies, and veterans like A’ja Wilson who continue to dominate and put women’s basketball on the map.
During the last year, Clark has also found herself in a lot of eyes and in the middle of a lot of debates from her college career to her professional career. “I tell people I feel like the most controversial person,” says Clark. “But I am not. It’s just because of all the storylines that surround me. I literally try to live and treat everybody in the same exact respectful, kind way. It just confuses me at times.”
Now, she’s ending the year with an honor from TIME Magazine as their 2024 Athlete of the Year. After a great rookie season with the Indiana Fever, we will continue to watch and see where Clark goes from here as she continues her career.
