Official Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas Event
Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas is 26 years old. It’s also the largest and oldest Juneteenth Festival in the Carolinas that draws vendors from Africa. The Juneteenth Freedom & Unity March will give a tribute to the Late Honorable Judge Shirley L Fulton. The entire multi-cultural event is FREE with a plethora of entertainment starting June 15th to the 18th. Same location for 26 years in the heart of the Plaza Midwood community. You’ll enjoy food, exquisite art, music, and culturally relevant specialty items.
On Thursday, June 15th the Children’s Cultural Camp starts at 9 am and ends at 4 pm.
Children will arrive at Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School near Independence Park. Children and youth, ages 4-16, will engage in a true cultural experience from making crafts, jewelry, tie-dyeing, performing skits, and much more. If attending please bring a t-shirt for the tie-dye class. On Friday, June 16th, the opening ceremony jumps off with the ever-popular Drum Circle. The Drum Circle attracts drummers and dance enthusiasts of all ethnicities from all over the US and the World. The Drum Circle takes place on Friday in front of the House of Africa at 1215 Thomas Ave. from 5 pm until 10 pm.
The big Juneteenth Festival takes place on Saturday, June 17th from noon until 10 pm. On Sunday the 18th from 11 am to 9 pm enjoy the Juneteenth Freedom & Unity March, prayer, learn history, and get educated. The Juneteenth Freedom & Unity March, which was created to encourage peace and unity, will start at 10 am on Saturday beginning at the Skyla Credit Union, 800 Central Ave., and finishing at the House of Africa, 1215 Thomas Avenue, where the festival began 26 years ago.
A VIP invitation-only luncheon will honor the Late Honorable Judge Shirley L. Fulton, forever chairperson of the Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas. Judge Fulton also served on the Board for the Juneteenth Festival. The Marilyn Griffith Turner Scholarship Fund is named posthumously after Judge Fulton, and scholarships will be given to deserving youth approved by our selection committee.
