Nicki Minaj’s Husband Sentenced For Not Registering As A Sex Offender

Author Autumn Hawkins
July 7th, 2022 10:25 AM
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 12: Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty attend the Marc Jacobs Fall 2020 runway show during New York Fashion Week on February 12, 2020 in New York City.

Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has been sentenced Wednesday (July 6) after failing to register as a sex offender.

Petty was ordered to pay a $55,000 fine as part of his sentence which includes three years of probation and one year of house detention, CBS News reports.

Last year, Petty pleaded guilty to failure to register as a sex offender in the state of California after withdrawing his initial not-guilty plea.

Prior to marrying Minaj, Petty was convicted of the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995. Last year, the then 16-year-old girl came forward as a woman named Jennifer Hough. In 2021, Hough filed a lawsuit against the couple accusing them of “witness intimidation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, assault, battery, sexual assault, and sexual harassment.” She later voluntarily dismissed her lawsuit against Minaj. Petty served four and a half years in prison and as part of his conviction, he must register as a sex offender every time he moves. Minaj and Petty moved to California from New York after they got married in 2019. The couple shares a two-year-old son.

They shared their dreams of making it as rappers," the lyricist writes. "They laughed together, they cried together. One day they realize that their dreams have come to fruition. Though they know all things come to an end, they celebrate. They wish that they could have this moment 4 LIFE." Prior to the release of the Drake-assisted track, the Canadian rapper expressed his interest in Nicki romantically in her song "Miss Me." The rapper takes another shot for her in this song as well with the lyrics, "F--- it, me and Nicki getting married today/ All you b------ hating can catch the bouquet."
