Weird is always my cup of tea. It’s August 12th people and I’m ready to get weird with you. Just like the days before and the ones to come, the history is weird, a little scary and we’ve got a list of them for you to enjoy.

Knowing major historical events is crucial to understanding how we live today. Seeing what happened in the past intrigues me. You might think I’m weird, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. Here are 5 of the weirdest and scariest facts for August 12th.

• Metallica Rules

  Rock n Roll baby! On August 12th, 1991 the band Metallica released their 5th album "Metallica." The album debuted at number one on Billboard 200 chart.

• Quagga

  On August 12, 1883, the very last captive quagga died at the Artis Magistra Zoo. A quagga is a zebra subspecies with fewer stripes. This type of zebra has stripes on the front half of its body and the upper part of its body was a creamy, light brown, while its belly and legs were whitish. The zoo was located in Amsterdam.
• John Mellancamp and Elaine Irwin Call It Quits

  Love died again. On August 12th, 2011 the very talented rock singer John Mellencamp divorced model Elaine Irwin. Their marriage lasted 18 years.

• Hungary 8 Million Year Old Forest

  On August 12th, 2007 Archaeologists discovered an eight million-year-old cypress forest in Hungary. Sixteen preserved tree trunks were found in an open coal mine in Bukkabrany. Scientists hoped that studying these specimens could provide insight into the ancient climate in which they lived.
