Netflix CEO Clarifies Password Sharing Crackdown
Netflix users were surprised back in March as they started being asked to verify their accounts. Now, Netflix CEOReed Hastings has clarified the password-sharing crackdown.
The authentication screen came with a warning. “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.” But it also gave users the option to verify later. That means they could continue without confirmation they’re the owner of the account.

Speaking during Netflix’s Investor Relations meeting on Tuesday, Hastings said they’re exploring ways to limit account sharing – but in a way that “makes sense to consumers.” Meaning, they’ll test “many things,” and nothing that “feels like turning the screws.”
