Cicely Tyson Was Royalty
If you were a fan of the show on ABC called, “How To Get Away With Murder” and adored the mom role Cicely Tyson played you’re not alone. Cicely was only 5ft 3 inches tall, but had a bold and grand presence in all the roles she played in, like Rosa Parks Story, House of Cards, The Help and so many more. Cicely was born in New York in 1924, and went from the big screen, to the small screen and the stage on Broadway. She inspired many, and mentored generations of people by simply working hard, and staying true to her convictions. She not only did it well, but she did it with class, style and grace in a career that spanned over seven decades.
How many women do you know that can take on a leading role on Broadway and win a Tony at age 88? You can’t talk of Hollywood royalty without mentioning Cicely Tyson, but her impact was felt not only by Hollywood’s elites, but by the world and political scene as well. Former President Barack Obama who graced her with the Medal of Freedom Honor in 2016, is quoted by saying “She took pride in knowing that whenever her face was on camera, she would be playing a character who was a human being — flawed but resilient; perfect not despite but because of their imperfections”. The nation is still mourning her passing, announced by her manager on January 28. However, on this first day of Black History Month and we can celebrate her achievements, her legacy and her life!
