Three Winners from North Carolina in the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open Poster Contest

I love a good art contest. It allows kids to express their creativity and have fun. Recently there was a youth poster contest for the 77th U.S. Women’s Open Championship Presented by ProMedica at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. Now the results are in. Four juniors have been chosen as winners of the Youth Poster Design Contest. Three of them are from North Carolina!

“The communities that host our championships are essential to their success,” said Allison Burns, assistant director, U.S. Women’s Open. “The poster design contest was the perfect way to engage youths in Southern Pines and its nearby communities. This is one more demonstration of the palpable excitement surrounding the U.S. Women’s Open. Congratulations to our creative and talented design winners – we can’t wait to share their artwork on-site during championship week for the entire sports world to admire!”

The winners’ designs will be printed and distributed to juniors who attend the U.S. Women’s Open, and will also be available at a variety of special events leading up to championship week. In addition, winning designs will be uniquely featured on-site at Pine Needles.

The winners are as follows:

  • Blame Carpenter, 14, Whispering Pines, N.C.

    “I have always loved drawing, sketching and painting, but mostly thought of it as a hobby,” said Blame, who attends New Century Middle School in Whispering Pines. “Winning the U.S. Women’s Open Poster Design Contest is the first time I have been recognized outside of my circle of family and friends. It’s super exciting, and something I’ll never forget!”

  • In its continued effort to support junior access to the game, the USGA will introduce several on-site activities at Pine Needles during championship week:

    The Junior Experience featuring LPGA*USGA Girls Golf will be located in Fan Central and include various activities such as arts & crafts, a prize wheel, chipping & putting areas and an exercise station. A 9-Hole Scavenger Hunt will allow juniors to navigate the golf course and experience the championship while in search of clues that lead to a prize that can be redeemed at the merchandise tent. Junior Viewing Areas will be roped off around tees and greens throughout the golf course, allowing youngsters to watch the world’s best from the front row. A dedicated Junior Selfie-Zone will be located behind the 18th green to encourage engagement with the world’s best players after the completion of each round.
